How to Make Pom Poms
I am going to teach you how to make pom poms without any special tools. Nothing to buy here. There are many different ways to make a pom-pom. I usually use my hand or my fingers to make them. When I need a bigger pom-pom, like for my Cute Little Bunny Butt wreath accessories crochet pattern or for an order for my Etsy Shop, I use the method I will be showing you today in this step-by-step tutorial.
Pom Pom Tutorial
Materials:
Directions:
- Cut a 10’ piece of yarn, place it on the 4’ side of the cardboard.
- Start wrapping the yarn around the cardboard.
- To make a 3’ pom-pom for the cute little bunny butt wreath accessories crochet pattern, I wind the yarn around the cardboard 100 times.
Tie:
After you wind the yarn around the cardboard, tie the extra piece of yarn in a knot around the first layer of the wound yarn.
Bend the cardboard in half slightly and slide the yarn off in one piece. Tie the extra piece of yarn in another knot around the backside.
Cut:
Take a sharp pair of scissors and cut all of the loops. Shake the pom-pom a few times to make sure it’s going to stay together. If pieces fall out of it you didn’t tie the center tight enough.
Trim:
This leaves you with a shaggy pom-pom. So, give it a haircut. Begin cutting just above the thicker part of the pom-pom. This will help you to create the roundness.
There you have it! This is the end of the pom-pom tutorial. As I said before, I use this pom-pom method to make the tail for a lot of the crochet items, orders for my Etsy Shop, and the cute little bunny butt crochet pattern that I created.
Here are a few things with pom poms I have made. You can find this set in my Etsy Shop.
